{"id":274,"date":"2006-07-12T03:01:05","date_gmt":"2006-07-12T03:01:05","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2007-01-07T18:27:02","modified_gmt":"2007-01-08T02:27:02","slug":"booting-fedora-installer-from-disk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/znark.com\/blog\/2006\/07\/booting-fedora-installer-from-disk\/","title":{"rendered":"Booting Fedora Installer from Disk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you already have Linux installed, it is possible to boot the Fedora installer to do installs or upgrades without a boot CD.<\/p>\n<p>In the [images\/pxeboot](http:\/\/download.fedora.redhat.com\/pub\/fedora\/linux\/core\/5\/i386\/os\/images\/pxeboot) directory of the [distribution repository](http:\/\/download.fedora.redhat.com\/pub\/fedora\/linux\/core\/5\/i386\/os\/), there is vmlinuz kernel and initrd.img ramdisk image.  Download those and put them in \/boot.  Then edit \/boot\/grub\/grub.conf and add the following entry:<\/p>\n<p>    title Fedora Installer<br \/>\n        kernel \/vmlinuz<br \/>\n        initrd \/initrd.img<\/p>\n<p>This assumes that you have a separate \/boot partition.  If not, add \/boot to the paths.<\/p>\n<p>Then, reboot your machine and select the &#8220;Fedora Installer&#8221; entry from the grub menu.
